After almost 7 years of working as a contractor to BMW South Africa, I am ending one journey and beginning another.
What?
Firstly, I am going to work as an independent software developer. Eric Ries writes in “The Lean Start-Up” that entrepreneurs are everywhere. Start-ups are human institutions designed to build new products and services. By that definition, I will be a start-up of one.
Secondly, I will be taking some time off to have some fun and explore new ideas. Fun includes riding boards on water. New ideas include filming and photographing the fun.
Lastly, travel. The two things above can be done from anywhere in the world. Why spend the next few years in exactly the same place that I spent the previous few?
Why?
In a word, story.
In December, I asked myself whether the story I was living was the story I wanted to be telling and the answer was no.
For me, putting myself out there, getting uncomfortable and facing uncertainty are what make for good stories. The best stories come from finding yourself in places you never expected to be in the first place!
Where?
For now, right here in South Africa. I have some road trips planned, and will share them here as they happen.
Thereafter, I will be heading to Mozambique and beyond.
How to keep in touch?
I will be sending out updates via this newsletter on a more or less weekly basis.

For more regular updates, I will be sharing some photos on Instragram @nicholaspre1.
Dug this one out of the way-too-old archives. Taken way back in Santa Catalina, Panama on a Nikon Coolpix of all things. Optical zoom, what!?
Peace
